STRUCTURE AND AREA OF JURISDICTION

The MARADONG AND JULAU DISTRICT COUNCIL was established on the 1st day of November, 1981 under the Local Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 3/77 which came into force on that date and consequently the former elected Council was replaced through restructuring, by the new Council of appointed members. Being contemporary with this structural metamorphosis, the new Binatang/Julau District Council succeeded the former Binatang District Council to integrate the Binatang District and the Julau District under its jurisdiction. The whole area of the Council lies within Sarikei Division covering approximately an area of 3,712.13 sq. km. [Julau District was formerly under the jurisdiction of Kanowit District Council] However, this important event of reform and marriage did not change the Council's power over the workaday routine of road maintenance, litter collection, etc. save its volume increased.
